Mekayla J. Schock
ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
Mekayla Schock is a litigation-trained attorney who brings substantial civil litigation experience to Statera Law’s family law practice. Before joining the firm, she managed a significant caseload of complex, multiparty matters involving individuals, families, businesses, insurers, and professionals.
Mekayla excels at substantive motion practice, depositions, expert witnesses, mediation, negotiation, and trial preparation. She is a careful and determined advocate who enjoys examining complicated factual and legal issues, developing creative strategies, and identifying details that others may overlook.
Private Client Services
Mekayla is drawn to private client services because it combines sophisticated legal advocacy with the opportunity to support clients through some of the most consequential and stressful periods of their lives.
She believes clients make better decisions when they understand the legal process, the realistic range of possible outcomes, and the risks associated with each available option. Mekayla works closely with clients to help them feel informed, prepared, and empowered to make decisions concerning their children, families, finances, and futures.
Her approach is also informed by her prior work in victim advocacy, disability rights, and problem-solving courts. Those experiences strengthened her ability to communicate with clients facing difficult and emotionally sensitive circumstances.
Representative Experience
- Litigated a caseload of approximately 35 to 50 complex civil litigation matters
- Analyzed and argued substantive motions involving nuanced legal and evidentiary issues
- Took and defended depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses
- Developed matters for trial; led negotiations resulting in multi-million dollar settlements
- Successfully challenged opposing expert testimony and protected confidential financial, proprietary, and business information during discovery
Personal Interests
Outside the office, Mekayla enjoys traveling, reading, making pottery, karaoke, and spending time with her dog. She also volunteers her cake-decorating skills to create birthday and celebration cakes for children in foster care and group-home settings.
